1. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO RESIDENCE?

Funding & Accomodation FAQ’s
1. What funding does OLE accept?
We accept self-funded/private students, Funza bursaries, university bursaries, NRF scholarships and NSFAS.
All students must provide proof of approved funding or show they can pay rent privately.
2. When should I apply for funding?
Apply as early as possible (NSFAS, bursaries, NRF, etc.) – Check Registration dates with your funding provider
Once your funding is approved, confirm with your university that you are fully registered for the academic cycle and accommodation allowance is included, then secure your spot at OLE by signing your lease.
3. What proof do I need for accommodation at OLE?
Bring:
- Your funding approval letter (NSFAS/NRF/bursary).
- Proof of registration at your university or institute.
- I.D and Student Card
- If self-funded: student or parent bank statements/income proof.
4. Do I need to sign a lease at OLE?
Yes – either personally at the OLE building of your choice or via the NSFAS portal (if NSFAS funded).
Signing your lease secures your room. Without it, your spot is not confirmed.
5. Is there an age limit to apply at OLE?
Yes. OLE accommodation is available to students between the ages of 18 and 30.
6. What types of rooms does OLE offer?
OLE offers a choice of:
- Single self-contained rooms
- Sharing units (2-sleepers) – designed for two students to share comfortably, making it more affordable while still enjoying OLE’s full range of amenities.
7. What security measures are in place at OLE?
Your safety is our top priority. At OLE we provide:
- Biometric access and facial recognition – only approved students can enter the residence.
- 24-hour on-site security guards at entrances and patrolling the building.
- Surveillance cameras (CCTV) throughout the property.
- Digital password locks on all room doors.
- Electric fencing as an added layer of protection.
8. Does OLE offer a shuttle service to and from campus?
Yes. OLE is affiliated with Campus Pro and Olympic Bus Services – two well-established and reliable transport providers in the student industry. These services provide safe and approved shuttle transport between OLE residences and major campuses, including UKZN (Howard, Edgewood, and Westville) as well as DUT.
9. I want to live at OLE in 2026 but haven’t arranged funding yet. What should I do?
- Register for your course.
- Apply early for funding.
- Get approval and confirm accommodation allowance.
- Secure your OLE room by signing your lease.

NSFAS Related Queries
1. My funding has been approved for Accomodation what next?
After your NSFAS accommodation funding is approved, you will then be able to apply for Ole through the my NSFAS portal. Once you have successfully applied and your application is accepted by Ole you will then be required to do your move-in process at your selected ole Res.
2. I have applied for accommodation and my status still says application in progress what do I do?
Once you have applied on the NSFAS portal and selected Ole as your res of choice, you must ensure you have registered with your respective institution for the current academic year and received your proof of registration form.
Once verified by your institution,your application will then update from pending institution review to registration received this when Ole will be able to approve your application.
3. My application was approved by ole and I was advised to come and complete my move in process, what do I need to bring.
Please ensure you bring a copy of your proof of registration form, ID and Student card. You will then do a viewing of your room then proceed to signing your lease.
4. My funding has been suspended but I still wish to stay at Ole, what are my options?
Ole accepts self-funded students, with transport provided to UKZN Edgewood Campus.
